Two rock songs I can think of that make prominent use of modulation in different ways could be One ( Metallica song ) features a promient B-> G downward modulation in the intro, and Livin'on a Prayer features a modulation up a whole step for the closing chorus and coda ( a common technique in lots of pop and rock songs ).
